World biodiversity 2019: ‘Our Biodiversity, Our Food, Our Health’

Biological diversity
World Biodiversity Day '19
Theme: Our Biodiversity, Our Food, Our Health
The UN has proclaimed 22 May the International Day for Biological Diversity to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. The theme of the 2019 edition will be ‘Our Biodiversity, Our Food, Our Health’. The theme aims to spread awareness of the dependency of our food systems, nutrition and health on biodiversity and healthy ecosystems. The theme also celebrates the diversity provided by our natural systems for human existence and well-being on Earth, while contributing to SDG 15 (life on land), SDG 14 (life below water), SDG 2 (zero hunger) and SDG 3 (good health and well-being), as well as SDG 13 (climate action) and SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation), among others.

Biological diversity — or biodiversity — is the term given to the variety of life on Earth and the natural patterns it forms. The biodiversity we see today is the fruit of billions of years of evolution, shaped by natural processes and, increasingly, by the influence of humans. It forms the web of life of which we are an integral part and upon which we so fully depend.
Biodiversity also includes genetic differences within each species — for example, between varieties of crops and breeds of livestock. Chromosomes, genes, and DNA — the building blocks of life — determine the uniqueness of each individual and each species.

Level of Biodiversity

1)Genetic biodiversity2)Species biodiversity
3)Ecosystem biodiversity

Actions on biological diversity The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is an international legally-binding treaty with three main goals: conservation of biodiversity; sustainable use of biodiversity; fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising from the use of genetic resources. Its overall objective is to enco
urage actions, which will lead to a sustainable future.

In the world a lot of government agencies and non-Governmental associations are working add to conserve and protect biological diversity at all level  to prevent extinction and mitigate global warming, climate change
